Roman Shade

Are roman shades retro or modern? They sure were popular in the 60s and 70s, and are making a resurgence. Traditionally roman shades moved so the opening was at the bottom of the window. Now you can have roman shades that open from the top too. Make them yourself, buy them or have them made for you.

Roman shades have come a long way in the last decade. They have moved from boring, lackluster window coverings into happening, exciting window treatments during the last ten years or so. This improvement is due to the fact that the internet has opened up the selection of roman shades and other items due to the ease in finding new and different products that are different and interesting. Another reason that roman shades have regained popularity is due to the many home improvement shows that are popular. They have helped to increase the interest in making your home into a beautiful place to be no matter what your budget.

Roman shades are easy to find at your local home improvement store or superstore. They can be found in more neutral shades or more decorative designs, depending upon your decorating needs. They can be found in many different sizes, too. If it is a particularly large window then you will want to make sure that they are going to be easy to raise and lower or you will find that you are not very satisfied with your purchase. Your fabric choice can dictate the ease of use, too, due to the weights of different fabrics. By taking all of these items into consideration, you will be able to find the right roman shades for your home or room.

One of the great things about roman shades is that they offer you the ability to control the amount of light that is allowed into a room. You can raise them just a bit to let in a little light or you can choose to completely raise them to increase the amount of light -- it is entirely up to you and your preferences. They are great for windows where you want that flexibility of being able to raise and lower the window treatment depending upon your desires.

Of course the material your roman shades are made of will impact how much light you let in, and what kind of temperature control you have. Bamboo and rattan shades give a tropical look to your room and lets of light through. Quilted and insulated shades give great temperature control, but no light filters through.

Another benefit of roman shades is that they can easily make your room's decor look more cohesive. Since they use fabric as their main material, this gives you the option of choosing the fabric color and design. You can choose to make the window a focal point with your choice of fabric or you can choose to let the window be a more neutral part of the room just with the fabric choice that you make.

If you cannot find roman shades that are perfect for your room, then you will be delighted to find that they are easy to make yourself. Instructions can be found on the internet and in decorating books to allow you to create these shades on your own with just a few supplies. You can also choose to buy neutral shades and embellish them as you desire with different embellishments, including sequins, beads, rickrack, or even paint. It is all up to you and your imagination.

Roman shades can help to make your room look more complete and finished. They are easy to find and easy to install, which makes them ideal for even the most novice of do-it-yourselfers. If you are looking for a functional window treatment that allows you flexibility, then roman shades may be just the thing for you.
